Contact

For privacy questions, write to codeddreams.app@gmail.com.

If you send feedback by email, or through the feedback form offered in test versions of the app, we receive what you choose to send (such as your address and message, and the app version and device model if you include them). The app itself collects nothing for this; the email app or the form in your browser handles it, and the form is a Google service under the Google Privacy Policy.

The Short Version

  • There is no account to create, and no sign-in.
  • The developer runs no server that receives your data, and the app has no analytics or crash reporting of its own.
  • Your prayer records, counts, progress, search history and saved location stay on your device.
  • Some features contact other companies directly, and those companies see your IP address and device details: Google (ads, purchases, YouTube videos, location and place-name lookup), the Islamic Network (Qur'an recitation audio) and GitHub (the list of video links). Details are below.
  • Islam Habits does not sell personal data.

What Stays On Your Device

Islam Habits stores the following on your device only:

  • your prayer and Tahajjud focus records, dua and tasbih counts, Qur'an and 99 Names progress and daily dhikr;
  • your Qur'an search history (the words you searched for);
  • your saved prayer location, and the prayer times calculated from it;
  • your theme, alert settings, dua reminders and tutorial progress;
  • the Qibla compass's calibration for this phone;
  • a record of the ad-free purchase, if you have made one (see Purchases).

Location. Islam Habits asks for your location when you choose to set or update your prayer location, precise or approximate depending on the permission you grant. Each time, it looks up your position once: it uses a precise fix the phone took in the last two minutes if there is one, and otherwise, for up to 15 seconds, takes the most precise fix the phone can give, stopping as soon as one is within about 20 metres; if none arrives in time, it uses the phone's most recent fix from the last 30 minutes. On devices with Google Play services the position comes from Google's fused location provider, which combines GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile network signals; how Google Play services handles location is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and your device's location settings. Without Google Play services, Android's own GPS and network location are used. The app does not track your location in the background. Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated on the device from the saved position and are never requested from a server.

The coordinates are sent once to Android's geocoding service, which on most devices is provided by Google, to look up a place name to display. If there is no internet connection, or that lookup fails, the saved location is shown as coordinates, the app reads the country of the mobile network your phone is connected to (on the device, without any extra permission, and never sent anywhere) to choose the usual prayer-time method for that country, and it looks up the place name later, once you are online.

Qibla compass. While the Qibla screen is open, the app reads the phone's magnetic field, gyroscope and gravity sensors to point the compass. These readings are used on the device only and are not stored, except for the calibration the compass learns for this phone, which is kept on the device and excluded from backup and device-to-device transfer, because it belongs to this physical phone.

What Leaves Your Device, And Where It Goes

Whenever the app talks to another company's servers, that company receives your IP address and basic device and app details, as with any internet connection.

Ads And Consent

Islam Habits shows ads served by Google AdMob. Google may use your advertising ID, IP address, device and app information and how you interact with ads to show and measure ads, including personalised ads where you allow it, and may receive crash and performance diagnostics from the ads software, under the Google Privacy Policy. The app declares the AD_ID permission so that the advertising ID can be used.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform before any ad is requested. If you decline, you still see ads - limited ads, which Google does not personalise from your consent choices - and every feature of the app works exactly the same. Where the law requires it, a "Privacy choices" tile appears in the More screen so you can reopen Google's form and change your choice at any time. People who have bought the ad-free plan are not asked at all. On any device you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation in the device's Google settings (Settings, then Google, then Ads).

Purchases

The optional ad-free purchase (a subscription or a one-time purchase) is handled entirely by Google Play. Islam Habits never sees your payment details. So that the purchase can be restored and checked, the app keeps the Google Play purchase details (including the purchase token, product and plan) and a random install ID on your device, signed with a key held in the Android Keystore, and verifies the purchase with Google Play. The developer runs no server for this. This record is excluded from backup and from device-to-device transfer.

YouTube Videos

Islam Habits embeds videos using YouTube's embedded player and API services. The player and its script are loaded from YouTube (youtube.com and youtube-nocookie.com). When you view or interact with a video, YouTube and Google may collect and process data, and may store cookies or similar data in the app's built-in web view, according to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

Islam Habits does not remove, block, or obscure YouTube player controls, branding, ads, or links supplied by the embedded player.

Video Links and Calculation Data

The list of YouTube links the app shows is a small public file hosted on GitHub Pages (coded-dreams.github.io). So that a broken video can be replaced without an app update, the app checks that file once a day, the first time you open the app that day, and keeps the last copy on your device.

Two more public files on the same site hold the data behind the app's calculations: the World Magnetic Model the Qibla compass uses to correct for magnetic north, and the calculation authorities' prayer-time parameters. They are kept current automatically from NOAA and the Aladhan methods catalogue, and the app checks them at the same time as the video list - once a day - and keeps the last copies on your device. Your location is never sent: the whole file is downloaded and every calculation happens on your device.

These requests carry no account, identifier or personal information. GitHub, which hosts the files, sees your IP address and device and app details like any web server, under its own privacy statement; the developer receives nothing from these requests.

Video Ownership

The videos linked in this app are hosted on YouTube and belong to their creators and channels. Coded Dreams does not own, host or claim any right in them. The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google or the creators of these videos. Each video plays in YouTube's own embedded player, with its YouTube branding, links and terms left in place, and can be opened on YouTube. The copyright notice on this page covers the app only, not these videos. If you own a video shown here and want its link removed from the app, write to codeddreams.app@gmail.com; you can also report content through YouTube.

Qur'an Recitation Audio

The Qur'an text is bundled with the app and is read offline. Recitation audio is streamed on demand from the Islamic Network CDN (https://cdn.islamic.network) when you play an ayah. The request names the ayah, reciter and audio quality, and the CDN also sees your IP address and device type. The audio is never stored on your device.

Alerts And Reminders

Prayer alerts and dua reminders require permission to post notifications, and use exact alarms so that they arrive at the correct time. They may vibrate, and they are rescheduled after the device restarts, is updated, or has its clock or time zone changed. Every alert is scheduled on the device from prayer times calculated on the device.

Backup

If Android backup is enabled for your device, your records, settings, saved location and search history are copied to your own Google account so that a new device can restore them. That copy is held under your Google account, not by the developer, and can be removed in your Google Account backup settings. The ad-free purchase record and the Qibla compass's calibration are excluded from backup and from device-to-device transfer.

Data Retention And Deleting Your Data

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it. The reset buttons on the calendar, Dhikr and Qur'an screens clear the records they show. To remove everything, including your saved location and search history, clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. Uninstalling does not remove a cloud backup copy; delete that in your Google Account backup settings. Because the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing to request from the developer; data held by Google, YouTube, GitHub or the Islamic Network is governed by their own policies.

Children

Islam Habits is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.

Security

Network communication with Google, YouTube, GitHub and the Islamic Network CDN uses HTTPS. Local app data is stored in Android app storage controlled by the operating system. The purchase record is signed with a key held in the Android Keystore.

Data Safety

The Google Play Data safety section for Islam Habits reflects the use of location, ads and advertising identifiers, purchases, embedded YouTube video playback and streamed recitation audio described above, together with the records stored only on your device.

Third-Party Content

Islam Habits bundles or quotes third-party content, credited in full on the app's Privacy & Terms screen and in the notice files shipped with the app:

  • Qur'an text: Uthmani script edition from the Tanzil Project; English translation by Saheeh International; transliteration published by Al Quran Cloud.

  • Fonts: Audiowide and Scheherazade New (SIL Open Font License 1.1).
  • Videos: every video the app links to belongs to its creator or channel on YouTube; Coded Dreams owns none of them (see Video Ownership above).

Changes To This Policy

If the app's use of data changes, this policy and the Privacy & Terms screen in the app are updated together, and the "Last updated" date changes.

This policy covers the Islam Habits app. For this website, see the Coded Dreams privacy policy.
